A Mentor must be passing classes with one of the following grades: A, B, or C. Only one below average grade is allowed (D or F)
A Mentor is someone that is “responsible” and “cares” for others.
A Mentor will need to take time to communicate with his/her freshmen at least once a week via phone, text, face to face talks, etc.
A Mentor leads by example, therefore he/she is expected to follow school rules.
If someone meets the above requirements, they will need to attend the "Call-Out" Meeting (usually in January) to meet with Mr. O'Shea and current Mentors to hear more about the program and expectations. After the meeting if you are still interested in becoming a Mentor, you will fill out an information sheet and turn it into Mr. O'Shea.
Mr. O'Shea will assign a date at the "Call-Out" meeting for all information sheets to be turned in. He will then check to make sure that you are meeting the grade requirements, tardy requirements, and following school rules. If you meet all of this criteria, you will officially become a Mentor after paying the club's $25 fee.
We will begin meeting Wednesdays once a month during “B-Club” Activity Days. During this time we will begin training you to work with our incoming freshmen.
You will be required to keep in contact, at least once a week, with your freshmen (Mentees) from the time you are assigned them through the completion of their first year of high school.
Mentors set up and run the Freshmen Orientation that occurs right before the beginning of the school year.
Mentors run Cookies and Cram which is designed to help students prepare for their first high school final exams.
The Mentors help incoming freshmen with their transition to “high school life.”
Mentors work individually with a small group of freshmen throughout their entire first year of high school.
Mentors begin contacting their incoming freshmen at the end of their 8th grade year so they can help with any questions that the students have about the upcoming school year.
