Seniors Allison Devlin and Lily Starkey had near-perfect rounds at the Area Spell Bowl meet where 11 area schools competed October 30. The Maverick Spellers finished first in area competition with 56 words spelled correctly over Class 1 schools Harrison, who had 30, and Jeff. They also finished first overall in front of Crawfordsville High School, who had 48. Congratulations also to Seniors Karas Boener, Rhiannon Philburn, Michelle Castro, McKenzie Akridge, Rowan Wallar, Peyton Hilbert, Anna Adkins, and Jane Stenger, Sophomores Sarah Vaught and Landry Wallar, and Freshmen Eliska Whited and Ashlynn Stewart. They outscored their previous meets by 22 and 14 words, respectively. Congratulations, and go, Mavs!
McCutcheon Academic Spell Bowl team qualifies for state
The Academic Spell Bowl team has qualified as sixth in the state and will be attending the state competition on November 11 at Purdue's Loeb Playhouse. Only the top nine Class 1 schools in the state qualify. Congratulations to the Spell Bowl team!
